The Association of Hillclimb and Sprint Schools

AHASS

Welcome :

Welcome to our website, which contains information about the four Hillclimb and Sprint Schools that operate from recognised Motor Sport venues in the United Kingdom.

Background :

The sport of hillclimbing (and it's associated sister sport of sprinting) have been a significant part of UK Motor Sport competitions since the early days of 1905, when the sport was introduced to this Country at Shelsley Walsh near Worcester. Nowadays, there many different hillclimb and sprint venues all around the UK, and various Championships are contended each year over differing series of locations, including the prestigious National Hillclimb and Sprint Championships which are organised on behalf of the Motor Sports Association, and the spectacular Brighton Speed Trials that utilise the promenade at Brighton.

The cars used at hillclimb and sprint events are of many different types, ranging from "bog standard" saloon cars running in Roadgoing classes, to specialist single-seater racing cars that are able to deliver more power to the rear wheels than a current Formula 1 race car. Saloon cars, sports cars, kit cars, rally cars, racing cars, and special "one-off" vehicles - they all compete against the clock, arranged in classes according to type and engine performance.

The drivers :

Drivers come from all backgrounds, and are across all age groups, with an increasing number of female drivers. Some compete solely for enjoyment, others are serious competitors who are hungry for success at local and national level.
